The Philosophy Behind Play and Early Childhood Education

from:

Early childhood education is not only for those who have gifted children. It is also not about keeping the children busy so they will not disturb you in any way. The philosophy behind early childhood education is to prepare the children for the time when they will be set on their own and without their parents or other persons assisting them.

The philosophy of early childhood education is for children to not only be physically, but also socially, academically and emotionally ready to face the outside world once they are old enough to start their life unaided.

It is said that children have various developmental aspects. These aspects are interrelated with each other. These what makes up the philosophy of early childhood education.

1. Development of sensory and perception.

From the early stages of the child’s life, he or she is able to make use of the senses to perceive the persons and things around them.

In early childhood education, these things are developed so that the children will have better abilities to take in and understand the things they encounter in their everyday lives.

2. Development of physical capabilities.

Children will grow up eventually. They need to be taught to walk and move around. Early childhood education will help them go about the routine of standing and walking steady and on their own.

They will also be taught to have proper control of the movements of their bodies; from the head up to the toes.

3. Cognitive development.

This is basically the how children think and react to the things around them. Whether it is happiness or pain, it will all depend on the factors that will bring out these kinds of reactions.

4. Developing social interaction.

Early childhood development will help the children how they will go about interacting with the people around them. It also helps them be comfortable about their individual identity and the role that they play in the social circle that they are in.

5. Emotional development.

This involves the feelings that children will have on different given situations.

They are taught to be aware of the existence of various emotions that they should be able to control. Since there are emotions that are stronger than others, it is important that children be able to control them and be ready for the consequences that their feelings will lead to.

6. Language and communication development.

Language will be their medium for a better communication with others. From their perception, the correct communication should be brought out so they can express the things that they want others to understand.

Having a better grip on the language will also prevent any miscommunication from occurring.

All this development can be achieve through playing. This is what makes up the philosophy of early childhood education. Children are not supposed to be deprived of playing because this is the best time for them to fully develop all their individual aspects.

By playing, they learn things that they do not know about. Once they get absorb in what they are doing, they will then begin to understand and will be able to go about them naturally and on their own.

Through playing the games or activities that they love, they do not know that they are actually being taught things and concepts. It will be later on when they are older and wiser that they will understand the philosophy behind early childhood education and all that they have been through.
